In the last of my series of looks at the early work of Kimberely Morgan ( Keith was her pseudonym back then) , let's take a look at her book A Witches Kitchen. Long out of print as are many of her works which is such a shame. She was a great writer and her early work was an inspiration and source of information for witches and pagans in the 90s and even later.
As with all of this series, this was a short, cheap book with a plain typeface and hand-drawn images which are, well, functional. In its 44 pages (counting the ads at the back) Morgan introduces the basics of witchcraft in the kitchen. A place we all do a lot of our work.
In short sections they talk about the witches garden and how to harvest your herbs and plants for best effect. They then go on to explain how herbs are used in magick for spells, incense , perfumes and even cakes and ale . Instructions are concise and clear as always. The wheel of the year is also explained in relation to herbs and the plants we harvest and use.
The appendix is also a worthy addition and a good source of herb information. Morgan also offers advice on the correct way to use and store your herbs.
If you are a complete novice to herbalism and if you can get a copy, this makes for a good introduction.
Be sure to check out my articles on other books by Morgan as well as an article about them.
