How to create a ribbon divination system

Divining with Ribbons
How to make a ribbon wand

In a previous article we discussed how simple ribbons can be used as a powerful and practical means of divining.

To summarise the original article, Colors carry energetic meanings, similar to chakra associations or traditional color magic.

•  White: Purity, spiritual healing, peace.

•  Red: Passion, energy, strength, success.

•  Pink: Love, affection, romance.

•  Orange: Creativity, emotional balance.

•  Yellow: Intellect, adventure, personal power.

•  Green: Growth, abundance, harmony.

•  Blue: Communication, protection, wisdom.

•  Purple: Spirituality, intuition, psychic ability.

•  Black: Protection, secrecy, or releasing negativity.

•  Brown: Grounding, stability.

•  Other shades (e.g., gold for wealth, silver for intuition) add nuance.

•  Texture and feel: Smooth ribbons might indicate ease, while rough or patterned ones suggest complexity or obstacles. Touch-based psychometry allows the reader to sense impressions or emotions.

•  Order and position: The sequence in which ribbons are chosen creates a narrative.

Common spreads include:

•  Simple 3-ribbon pull: Past, present, future.

•  7-ribbon personality spread: Reveals traits, influences, strengths, and short-term outlook.

•  6-ribbon profile: A traditional method where positions represent core self, desires, challenges, helpful influences, strengths, and long-term outcome.

•  Cross Wheel or mandala layout: Ribbons arranged in a circle for a mindful, visual reading, often enhanced with charms or crystals.

Practitioners might bundle ribbons into a “bouquet” or attach them to a pin/rod for easy selection. Some layer in other tools—like adding tarot cards or runes—for clarification.

How you choose to use ribbons is totally up to you. Find a way you feel works best for you and people who you use them with.
One fun and easy way to offer a simple ribbon choice system is to use a wand or rod upon which you attach your ribbons using the colours and textures you feel best . The wand need not be elaborate or expensive. Just a small branch or twig that you’ve found. Please don’t break one from a tree unless you ask for permission and leave a suitable offering and healing blessing to the tree or bush.
You can if you want add small crystals to it , whatever you like. Be creative!
